Russia’s Reassessment of Peace Position Follows Alleged Overnight Drone Assault

by admin477351

Russia’s decision to reassess its peace negotiation position follows what Moscow describes as an overnight drone assault on President Putin’s residence. US President Donald Trump, who learned about the incident from Putin directly, expressed strong disapproval of the alleged action.
Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov provided details claiming that 91 long-range unmanned aerial vehicles were launched toward Putin’s Novgorod region property between late Sunday and early Monday. He stated that Russian air defense systems intercepted and destroyed all incoming drones but characterized the attempt as a fundamental shift in Ukraine’s approach.
Trump’s public statements reflected his frustration with the timing of such alleged attacks during sensitive peace negotiations. Speaking to reporters in Florida, he drew a clear distinction between conventional military operations and targeting a world leader’s personal residence, emphasizing the latter’s negative impact on diplomatic progress.
President Zelensky categorically rejected the Russian narrative, describing it as deliberate misinformation intended to undermine peace efforts. He suggested that Moscow might be manufacturing the incident to create justification for retaliatory strikes against Ukrainian government facilities and to derail constructive dialogue.
The controversy emerged immediately after what both Trump and Zelensky had characterized as productive discussions about ending the conflict. The Kremlin’s swift announcement of a position reassessment demonstrates how fragile the diplomatic progress remains.
