‘Chansiri’ Seats Torn Out as Owner Puts Wednesday into Administration

In a powerful symbol of a regime change, seats spelling out “Chansiri” in the North Stand of Hillsborough were being removed just moments after Sheffield Wednesday was placed into administration. Owner Dejphon Chansiri appointed administrators, ending his controversial tenure but triggering a devastating 12-point deduction.
The penalty drops the Owls to -6 points, 15 points from safety. This “bittersweet” day, as fans called it, marks the end of “years of financial mismanagement,” according to the Supporters Trust. The club’s debts include $pounds{}$1 million to HMRC and a history of unpaid wages that led to a player exodus last summer.
The club has been “living hand-to-mouth,” with any income being used to service debts. The EFL had previously expressed deep concern, and the threat of a winding-up petition from HMRC appears to have been the final straw.
Manager Henrik Pedersen, who has not spoken to Chansiri, met with the administrators from Begbies Traynor. He told his “emotional” staff that the club “cannot continue” as it was and needed a “fresh restart.” He remains hopeful job losses can be prevented.
The Supporters Trust, which had organised matchday boycotts, is now calling for a “phase of renewal.” They are urging fans to return to Hillsborough, stating, “Every ticket bought… helps the club rebuild from the ground up.”
