This winter, Broadway will welcome a new musical that celebrates the life and career of country music icon Dolly Parton. Following a successful run in Nashville, “Dolly: A True Original Musical” is set to begin preview performances at the St. James Theatre on December 7, with its official opening night slated for January 19, which will coincide with Parton’s 81st birthday.

The production promises to offer audiences a comprehensive look into Parton’s journey from her humble beginnings to her rise as one of the most revered figures in country music. In addition to featuring many of Parton’s well-loved songs, the musical will introduce new compositions specifically crafted for the show. Directed by Bartlett Sher, the creative team aims to provide a portrayal that delves beyond the glittering façade of fame, highlighting the personal experiences, obstacles, and triumphs that have defined Parton’s life.

Parton expressed that the musical seeks to capture her story in its entirety, giving insight into the significant moments and the influential individuals who have played a role in shaping her path. By focusing on the lesser-known aspects of her life, the production endeavors to resonate with audiences through its authentic and heartfelt narrative.

After a sold-out premiere in Nashville, the Broadway debut is anticipated to garner considerable interest from both theater enthusiasts and Parton’s dedicated fan base. Tickets for the general public will go on sale starting July 10, with early access available for fans eager to secure their seats for this highly anticipated show.
