Netanyahu’s Stance Threatens Economic Stability Without Hamas Disarmament

by admin477351

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has firmly rejected any withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza unless the militant group Hamas is entirely disarmed, dismissing a proposal supported by the United States that seeks to tie military pullback to a comprehensive peace agreement. According to Israeli officials, intelligence reports suggest that Hamas continues to recruit fighters, reconstruct its military capabilities, and acquire more weapons. Israel argues that a premature withdrawal would enable Hamas to reestablish its control over Gaza, thereby renewing security threats to the region.

The ceasefire framework being promoted by the United States involves several key components, including the disarmament of Hamas, dismantling of its tunnel network, and a phased withdrawal of Israeli troops. Additionally, this plan calls for the establishment of a Palestinian technocratic government, the deployment of an international security force, and efforts to reconstruct the war-torn Gaza area.

In the midst of ongoing hostilities, Israeli airstrikes have reportedly resulted in the deaths of at least 17 individuals, including children, over the past few days. In a separate incident, Palestinians held a mass funeral service following the recovery of over 100 bodies from beneath the rubble of a significant Israeli airstrike in the Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City, executed in November 2023. Rescue operations are still underway, with many victims feared to be trapped under the debris.

The current conflict erupted after Hamas launched a large-scale attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, leading to the deaths of approximately 1,200 people and the kidnapping of 251 hostages. This attack served as the catalyst for the ongoing military engagement in Gaza, which has continued to escalate amid international calls for de-escalation and peace negotiations.
