In a bid to reinforce bilateral relations, Canada has underscored India’s role as a pivotal partner, as both countries aim to expand cooperation across various sectors. This reaffirmation came during a meeting between Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand and Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Anand highlighted India’s status as one of the fastest-growing and most dynamic economies globally, emphasizing its significance in Canada’s international partnership strategy. The discussions between the two ministers covered the progress under the Canada-India roadmap, which charts collaboration in areas such as trade, security, energy, mobility, innovation, and defense.

Both ministers expressed a strong commitment to advancing shared priorities and further strengthening the ties between Canada and India. Jaishankar described the meeting as productive, noting that efforts are underway to elevate the bilateral relationship to new heights.

Anand also articulated Canada’s broader strategy to diversify its international alliances, particularly by building robust economic ties with countries throughout the Indo-Pacific, Gulf, and Latin America regions, including economic powerhouses like India and China.
